Centenary Plaque

Pure & Wholesome Water for One Hundred Years

In 1949 the Staffordshire Potteries Water Board celebrated a century of progress in water supply.

At the opening of the Centenary Exhibition in Hanley on 16th December 1949 the commemorative plaque, pictured, was unveiled by the Chairman of the Staffordshire Potteries Water Board, Alderman J.H. Dale J.P.

As part of this celebration a book entitled "Pure & Wholesome Water for One Hundred Years - The Story of the Staffordshire Potteries Water Undertaking" was published. Original copies of the book are available from the Mill Meece Shop.

The following pages are an extract from this publication and provide an insight into the formation of the Staffordshire Potteries Water Works Company in 1849.
