Barring Engines
Marshall Barring Engine |
Ashton Frost Barring Engine |
Each engine has a steam driven barring engine to turn the engines for starting or for maintenance.
The barring engine drives a small pinion, which engages in a toothed rack within the rim of the main flywheel periphery.
Pictured left is the Marshall barring engine of the Hathorn Davey steam engine and right the barring engine for the Ashton Frost steam engine manufactured by them.
